James Suckling (JS) : 95 Points (2020)
Tangy, pure, lightly smoky and creamy nose with ripe golden berries, quince and caramelized apples. A hint of wet stones, too. Quite bright, flavorful and concentrated on the palate with remarkable intensity and a long yet fresh and mineral finish. A fresh, complex sauvignon blanc that is densely packed with flavors. Impressive length.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 94 Points (2020)
Intense, concentrated and aromatic, this mouthwatering white is fresh and lively, with crisp Key lime pie and graham cracker notes followed by details of lemon blossoms, honeysuckle and lemon verbena. Shows a simultaneously supple and sleek body, with a savory sea salt note and the slightest hint of flint lingering on the finish.

Decanter (DCT) : 98 Points (2019)
Established in 1985, Cloudy Bay has become one of the world’s most recognised New Zealand wine brands. Te Koko is made from fruit from four prime vineyard parcels. It’s barrel-fermented with ‘wild’ indigenous yeasts for four to five months before spending 15 months on fine lees. Roger Jones: Thai rice pudding with kaffir lime. Clean, focused and lingers for an age. The luxurious feeling at the end is immense; this is a stunning wine. Melanie Brown: Opulent and alluring. Shows how oak can heighten flavours and texture. Soft white peach and florals on a citrus base. Creamy centre with caramel popcorn and a pristine acid line. Beautiful. Rebecca Palmer: Attractive key lime characters, oak melding to create the silky, sleek palate. (5/2022)

Bob Campbell MW (BC) : 95 Points (2019)
A sophisticated trailblazing oak-matured sauvignon blanc, which retains tangy varietal character while adding subtle toast and ginger flavours from barrel maturation. A wonderful texture and a crisp, dry and lingering finish. (10/2021)

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 93 Points (2019)
Back after two years of absence (the quality was not judged good enough to create Te Koko in 2017 and 2018), the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc Te Koko reflects the more precise viticulture and pared-back winemaking now going on at Cloudy Bay. From full malo and heaps of new oak, there's now just 8% new, 52% malo and 11 months on lees in the 2019, finishing in more reductive environment of tanks and cuves rather than bottles, which creates a more defined wine. The result is a savory, plush expression that expands in the mouth. It has a delightful creamy texture yet finishes with fine tension. Gone are the days of blowsy Te Koko. This has delightful acidity, smoky notes, hazelnut, pear and nougat on the long finish. (10/2021)

Robert Parker (RP) : 91 Points (2016)
Cloudy Bay's 2016 Te Koko Sauvignon Blanc is marked by scents of pencil shavings and citrus fruit on the nose, while the medium-bodied palate features a silky texture allied to bright acidity that calls to mind certain well-made Pessac-Léognan whites. Rather taut and linear, it could use another year or two to settle down, although it will likely never be as opulent or generous as the wonderful 2015.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 90 Points (2016)
Jim White blends this wine from six vineyards, the fruit hand-harvested from three subzones—Rapaura, Renwick and Brancott. He allows it to ferment spontaneously and slowly in French oak barrels (eight percent of them new), where it then rests for 15 months. As the wine opens in the glass, it displays creamy richness and saturated passion-fruit flavors, smoky lees scents and an almost searing limelike acidity. Still young, this will benefit from several years of bottle age.

Jancis Robinson (JR) : 93 Points (2015)
As more wineries have adopted this style of Sauvignon Blanc, Te Koko isn't the standout wine it once was. That doesn't mean it's not still excellent. The 2015 Te Koko offers pungency and passion fruit on the nose, followed by a wine of great concentration and intensity. Hints of struck flint add complexity, while the mouth-filling palate boasts a rich, multilayered texture and a lingering finish. Only 8% aged in new French oak and about a third of the wine went through malolactic fermentation, leaving it with crisp acids and a great sense of elegance and balance.
