Fortuna Terrae means luck of the land in Latin, and indeed, the vines from this parcel of the Adrianna Vineyard are lucky.

The loamy soils are home to many varieties of native grasses wich prevent erosion and attract benefic insects, singing birds and mountain foxes. Because of the freshness imparted by the deep soils and high altitude, the wines of Fortuna Terrae have optimal acidity and delicate flower aromas. It is best to enjoy this wines a few years or decades after harvest.

Nicola Catena planted his first Malbec vineyards in Mendoza in 1902. Malbec had been a blending grape in Bordeaux, but Nicola suspected it would find its hidden splendor in the Argentine Andes. Fast forward sixty years and Nicola’s grandson Nicolas took the reigns of the family firm. Since the mid-1960s, Nicolas has spent his career building Catena in to one of the world’s best wineries, emulating what his mentor Robert Mondavi achieved in California. Nicolas was a pioneer of… Read more

Blackberries with some black tea and perfumes. Full-bodied with fine, dusty tannins and seamless texture. So long and consistent. 60% whole cluster fermentation with 14 months in oak casks. Glorious, tactile wine.

Robert Parker (RP) : 97 Points (2019)
The 2019 Adrianna Vineyard Fortuna Terrae has herbal and spicy aromas intermixed with flowers coming through as harmonious and very integrated. It comes from a part of the vineyard with slightly deeper soils with limestone at 70 centimeters. This plot provides very aromatic, lighter wines, floral, with fine tannins with chalky minerality and good grip. It fermented with 100% full clusters and matured in oak foudre for 18 months. Best after 2023. Rating: 97+

Wine Spectator (WS) : 96 Points (2019)
Give this red some air and then marvel at the elegant orchestra of violet, guava, wild berry and pomegranate aromas and flavors that keep playing on to the end. A push of fresh acidity midpalate adds details of loam, marinated olive and orange peel that linger effortlessly around the core fruit flavors and integrated, lithe tannins. Shows lots of promise, which should reward cellaring. Drink now through 2036.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 95 Points (2019)
The 2019 Malbec Adrianna Vineyard Fortuna Terrae is made with grapes from parcel 6 of the Adrianna Vineyard, Uco Valley, planted in Gualtallary at a height of 4,400 feet and aged for 18 months in new and second use French barrels. The pure, intense and precisely judged nose offers delicate fruit such as sweet and sour cherry alongside hints of lavender and violet and faint herbal aromas. It's relaxed and juicy on the palate with subtle, finely grained tannins and a little chalk. The finish is elongated by fruity flavors. The year helped with the nuanced freshness in this Malbec. (JH) (11/2021)

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 91 Points (2018)
Nicolás Catena planted the Adrianna vineyard in 1992, where this wine grows in a 12-acre plot of deep loamy soils at 4,482 feet above sea level. The wine’s alcohol hasn’t quite integrated with the pale violet florals, blueberry-skin tannins and toasted-oak flavors. It’s silky, but not heavy, and some air reveals fresher facets, like crunchy raspberry, suggesting that the wine would improve with a few more years in the cellar.

Tim Atkin (TA) : 95 Points (2015)
The third vintage of this elegant, spicy, 80% whole bunch-fermented Malbec, made in more of a “European” style than many of the top Catena reds, is every bit as good as its predecessors. Fresh, tangy and peppery, with skilfully integrated 50% new oak, crunchy red berry fruit and a fine, refreshing finish. 2019-27

Decanter (DCT) : 95 Points (2014)
From the chalkiest soils of the high Adrianna vineyard, this seems to have been made of stones rather than grapes. An intense minerality is accompanied by floral details in a firm, intense structure. A long and profound red. Two years in French oak.
