Opaque purple in colour with ruby tintstowards the rim.

Profound aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and blueberries with spice notes and touches of mint.

On the palate it is rich, velvety and robust with flavours of chocolate, blackberry jam and liquorice notes.

Well structured with firm, yet ripe tannins and a very long, spice-driven finish.
The winery is situated in the Calchaquí Valley of Salta in the far north of Argentina at nearly 1,828 metres above sea level. It is a part of the Hess Family Estates and is run with the same dedication to quality, sustainability and social responsibility as the other Hess Estates around the world. Robert Parker (RP) : 90+ Points (2014)
The 2014 Amalaya Gran Corte is a blend of Malbec with some 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Tannat that wants to showcase the potential of their vineyards in Cafayate. Rains were the average 125 liters (extremely low compared to other places and the vines need to be irrigated or they'd die), and the year was very balanced, for them one of the best in recent times. The grapes were picked at full ripeness, fermented with indigenous yeasts and the wine matured in one-third new oak barrels (two-thirds French, the rest American) for one year. Until 2012, there was a lot of purchased grapes and in 2014, it's 100% of their own grapes, and you really notice a big step up in quality. This is harvested up to 20 days after the Amalaya Malbec and you get darker fruit; also, the influence of the oak is more noticeable, with abundant sweet spices (cinnamon, vanilla) and a core of decayed violets. The palate is round, tasty and very spicy, with some smokiness, displaying a more commercial profile. 78,000 bottles produced.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 90 Points (2010)
Bright ruby-red. Sexy aromas of wild blackberry, black cherry and game. Seamless, fine-grained and lightly saline, with almost syrah-like notes of blueberry, game and pepper. Lovely balance and energy here. Builds nicely on the back end, finishing with supple, even tannins and very good saline persistence. Excellent value.-- Stephen Tanzer

Wine Spectator (WS) : 88 Points (2010)
Tangy black cherry coulis and sun-dried red plum notes lead in this rich red, with additional earth, tobacco and game notes playing out in the background. Drink now.

For centuries, farmers made offerings in hope for a miracle – as Amalaya translates in the local language – for a bountiful harvest. It is located at 1,800 meters above sea level, in the Calchaqui Valley, northwest of Argentina. The region stands out as one of the highest vineyards in the world, characterized by its dry climate with no more than 150 mm annual rainfall, with significant thermal amplitude; rocky and sandy soil.

Intense gold in colour with tints of green. On the nose this wine is intense and complex with aromas of citrus and grapefruit typical of Torrontes. Delicate and silky on the palate with great freshness and crisp acidity on the distinctly mineral finish.

Lush blackcurrant, mint and chocolate notes with chewy ripe tannins and a racy, fresh feel. A balance between the restraint of Bordeaux and the Uber-Cabs of California.

Pure ruby-red color. The nose is fruity with cherry and strawberry notes. Some tertiary hints of leather. On the palate, ripened red fruits, succulent, intriguing and long-lasting. Tannins are delicate and well integrated. The aftertaste expresses a lively freshness with notes of dark red fruits, wet ground and wood.
