Wine Spectator (WS) : 93 Points (2014)
This red shows density and structure, with firm, well-integrated tannins and balsamic acidity supporting plum, currant, dark chocolate and mineral flavors. Polished and harmonious. Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Drink now through 2026. 30,000 cases made.

Robert Parker (RP) : 92+ Points (2014)
I tasted the 2014 Selección Especial, a very different vintage from 2013. It was a prolific vintage, so they had to do a severe green harvest to adjust yields, and some rains in September forced the harvest to be a little earlier. The final blend is slightly different each year and in 2014 it was 70% Tempranillo, 17% Syrah and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon. The aging in barrel was slightly shorter, 11 months instead of 13. 2014 was a homogeneous vintage and they didn't need to use any Merlot, which in slightly warmer vintages does not work as nicely as in cooler ones. This wine changed from the 2010 vintage, as before that year they used quite a lot of oak and the wine was very oaky. They have now removed the excess, and the wines show more precision and purity. It's a little riper and concentrated than the 2013, with more clout but perhaps a little more predictability. This has all the ingredients to be a great commercial success. 390,000 bottles, 22,000 magnums and 1,800 double magnums produced and bottled in 23 lots.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 89 Points (2014)
Ripe berry aromas are matched by hefty oak-based scents of lemon, vanilla and toast. In the mouth, this is chunky and obtuse, with a blocky overall feel. Prune, blackberry and oaky toast flavors are grapy and a bit soft on a chunky finish.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) (AG) : 91 Points (2011)
Jan '16 By Josh Raynolds - Opaque ruby. Highly perfumed scents of candied dark berries, mocha, licorice and violet, with a smoky mineral topnote. Densely packed but lively, offering sappy black and blue fruit flavors that brighten and tighten up with air. A hint of cracked pepper adds bite to a long, sweet and focused finish that's framed by dusty, slow-building tannins. I'd have guessed that there was more Syrah in this blend.

James Suckling (JS) : 90 Points (2011)
A firm and savory wine with sliced berry and light chocolate character. Medium body. Solid fruit. A blend of tempranillo, cabernet sauvignon and syrah. Very drinkable. Enjoy.

Jancis Robinson (JR) : 17 Points (2011)
Tasted Apr 2015 - Smoky, herbal, aromatic, broad, rich and incredibly satisfying. Lovely fine grain to the texture. Fabulous aromatic lift. Distinct and distinguished, but with a rustic edginess. (RH)
