Aromas of peach, thyme and lilies. Medium-bodied with refreshing tannins. Bright acidity, but overall pleasant, mellow presence. Fresh stone fruit and jasmine on the palate. Well balanced with a soft finish. 63% roussanne, 20% grenache blanc, 14% picpoul blanc, 3% picardan.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 94 Points (2019)

Vivid yellow. Assertively perfumed orange zest, nectarine and pineapple aromas, along with building floral and smoky mineral flourishes. Shows fine definition and tension on the palate, offering intense citrus and pit fruit flavors braced by a core of juicy acidity. The 2019 Esprit de Tablas Blanc is made primarily from Roussanne, blended with 20% Grenache Blanc, 14% Picpoul Blanc and 3% Picardin. It has a very pretty spiced apple perfume, with touches of musk and white flowers, honey and apricots. The palate is pleasantly lifted and tangy at this stage, hinting at broader, more savory tones to come with time in the bottle.

Decanter (DCT) : 94 Points (2018)

Compelling aromas of golden fruit, dairy cream, fresh vanilla and pastries. Palate is much less about cake and more about stone: both stone fruit (apricot, from the Roussanne) and pebbles. Has a lovely riverine freshness. Green apple acidity and phenolics ‘spark’ the mid-palate and really refresh the finish which then becomes cleansing. A savoury, food-demanding white wine. Tablas Creek’s top white has been roussanne-dominant for several vintages now, and they’ve learned how to capture the variety’s elegant fleshiness without letting it get blowsy, propping it up with higher-acid whites, like grenache blanc, picpoul, clairette and picardin. This wine smells of apple pulp and honey at first go, giving up little but seductive texture. On the second day open, the wine becomes grand, the weight of roussanne comfortable and powerful, with a lemony, crisp apple contour.

The flagship white is the 2018 Esprit de Tablas Blanc, which checks in as 66% Roussanne, 21% Grenache Blanc, 8% Picpoul Blanc, and tiny amounts of Picardan and Clairette Blanche. Light gold-colored, with notes of mulled pears, lemon curd, white flowers, and spice, it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, terrific elegance and purity, no hard edges, and a solid finish.
